Overview of LEED® Green Building Rating System™
Environmentally responsible, sustainable building design and operation is a top-of-mind issue for anyone in architecture, construction and real estate. Buildings represent about one-third of the energy consumption in the U.S., along with the corresponding amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
Since its inception in 2000, U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC’s) voluntary, consensus-based LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Rating System™ has emerged as the leading sustainable building “scorecard.”
Wausau, along with its parent company, Apogee Enterprises, and its sibling companies, Linetec, Harmon, Tubelite and Viracon, are all members of USGBC.
